Sailing Checklist:

• Shirts: tank tops, t-shirts (long and short sleeved), polo's, etc
• Shorts - quick drying shorts are great
• Jacket or sweatshirt - for sunset cruises and the cooler months
• Bathing suits
• Sunblock, lip balm, face cream - don't let a sunburn keep you off the water
• Nonskid deck shoes - Sperry TopSider and Sebago are popular brands found in most shoe stores. Canvas sneakers, leather moccasins, or athletic shoes are acceptable. Shoes must be non-marking, dark bottoms leave marks on boat decks. Look for shoes with tightly grooved soles designed for grip on wet surfaces. Protect your toes - no sandals please.
• A hat that stays on - a good hat will help to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes. Chose a hat with a low profile beak and a strap that attaches to your shirt collar.
• Sunglasses - polarized sunglasses are great for sailing; they are beneficial to the eye and help reduce glare from the water. Standard sunglasses that offer UVA and UVB protection will work well though, but remember to always wear a sunglass strap to prevent them from going overboard.
• Foul weather gear - (also known as rain gear) During the cooler months, or rainy-windy days, waterproof suits are recommended. A good suit of foul weather gear will last a long time and is a great investment if you plan to continue sailing.
• Sailing gloves - another great tool for the serious sailor. Gloves will prevent your hands from chaffing and makes trimming sails much easier as the wind picks up.
